A fire destroyed the Maxi Dolphin shipyard building in Erbusco, Italy, and three boats — an MD80, an MD75, and an MD51 Power — according to a statement the shipyard posted on Facebook on Aug. 25.
“The fire stopped us. And for a few hours last night, it left us speechless. We stood there watching the firefighters fight the flames through the night, doing everything they could to save our shipyard in Erbusco,” the statement said.
The yard, which has been operational for almost 40 years, said no one was injured. The company said its immediate priorities are to clear and secure the site and restart operations.
Maxi Dolphin CEO Luca Botter said the company plans to resume motorboat and sailing boat operations at another site.
“Almost 40 years of history, craftsmanship and passion cannot be stopped by one night,” Botter said. “The fire stopped us, and it is an immense pain, but we will start again immediately at another site. We will not stop.”
