The Port of Barcelona has approved a 10-year extension of MB92 Barcelona’s shipyard concession, taking it to 2050, along with a 4,000-square-meter yard expansion.
Backed by more than €40 million in investment between 2026 and 2028, the development program will extend quayside capacity, introduce new technology, renew key infrastructure — including the dry dock — and reduce the yard’s environmental footprint.
“This agreement gives us the space and long-term certainty allowing us to further invest in the shipyard to meet our clients’ needs in the years ahead,” said Jordi Ariet, managing director of MB92 Barcelona. “The additional capacity and improved infrastructure will provide more efficiency and further elevate service quality as we continue striving for excellence, enabling us to handle increasingly large and complex projects for our clients.”
Planned upgrades include redeveloping the Travelift and Syncrolift areas, installing a new 680-tonne telescopic Travelift to serve five hardstanding spaces for yachts up to 55 meters, adding a 110-tonne electric Travelift for tenders and smaller support vessels, upgrading the 220-meter dry dock, and extending and reinforcing the Western Dock’s operational quayside. MB92 will also study new measures to reduce noise from shipyard operations.
Environmental improvements include expanding water recovery and reuse systems. Building on the AiguaNova initiative launched in 2025, which recovers graywater from a local leisure center for washdowns, cleaning, and cooling towers, MB92 will install a new wastewater collection and treatment system to reduce its freshwater demand.
Beyond 2028, MB92 plans to continue modernizing its Barcelona facility with new workshops and structures, refurbishing employee offices, and upgrading critical infrastructure across the yard. This additional phase of investment will enable MB92 Barcelona to apply for a five-year extension through 2055, with the potential for further extensions.
